Ultrarunning in Colorado doesn't get more brutal than this — 29 miles, four mountain passes, and a training block building toward 50 marathons in 50 states in 24 days.
We're back in the mountains with ultrarunner Robbie Balenger as the training block continues ahead of Mission America.
This is ultramarathon training the way almost nobody does it — runs ranging from 19–29 miles from Monarch Pass back to Robbie's house, and a brutal 29-mile, four-pass loop through some of the toughest trail running Colorado has to offer.
Along the way, Robbie breaks down how I've progressed since my last Colorado training block, what makes my approach to endurance running so unusual, and why watching Will run around in a full heat suit looks completely ridiculous.
Then, somewhere deep in the mountains, things get a little more interesting when we come across a bear.
Every long run like this is one more step toward 50 marathons, 50 states, 24 days.
Mission America is getting closer.
