SCHWARZMÖNCH T6: The Wildest & Most Beautiful Hike Above Lauterbrunnen! 🏔️🔥via Silberhornhutte

Schwarzmönch (2649 m) is a striking and lesser-known peak in the Bernese Alps, rising high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Although often hidden in the shadow of the mighty Jungfrau, this mountain offers one of the most beautiful alpine hikes in the entire region. The route begins in Stechelberg, deep in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, following the marked trail toward Rottal Hut until the junction “Beim Chalten Brunnen” (approx. 2000 m). From here, the trail branches left toward Silberhorn Hut (Silberhornhütte). Up to this point, the hike is classified as T3, well-marked and steady. From “Chalten Brunnen” to Silberhorn Hut, the difficulty increases to T5 — good footwear, solid alpine experience, and strong orientation skills are essential. The terrain becomes rougher, exposed, and filled with loose rock. In wet conditions, this hike is strongly discouraged. The final ascent from Silberhorn Hut to Schwarzmönch Summit via Rottbrathoren–Ufem Schwarzen Grat is an alpine challenge — rated T6 / II. UIAA, with some fixed chains and rope sections on the most difficult parts. The rocks are unstable, but the climb itself is fun and rewarding, offering a spectacular view of Jungfrau, Lauterbrunnen Valley, and Schilthorn. On the summit, extreme caution is needed — it’s a loose rocky ridge, but absolutely worth the effort. On your way up, you’ll pass Strahlbratti (≈ 2500 m), the last natural water source before the hut.
