How do you write a weekly status report with Copilot? In this lesson I give Copilot three sources with the slash: our channel posts, the project tracker, and last week's update. Then I ask for four sections: Done, Next, Blocked and Decisions needed, under 150 words. The important part is telling Copilot not to guess: mark anything inferred, and write "no update from owner" when a task has no update. Then I check the Blocked line, write the Decisions needed line myself, and show the Planner Agent's status report as a second option.
In this lesson:
The three sources: the channel, the tracker, last week's update
The prompt: Done, Next, Blocked, Decisions needed
Tell Copilot not to guess: inferred and "no update from owner"
Read the update and check every line
The Blocked line (it might be you)
Why you write Decisions needed yourself
The Planner Agent: a status report from your plan
For managers: roll up your team's updates with the same prompt
What goes wrong
Prompt from this lesson (copy and try it):
Draft this week's status update for [project], for my director. Sources: /[channel posts], /[tracker], /[last week's update]. Format: Done, Next, Blocked, Decisions needed. Mark anything you inferred, rather than found, with (inferred). If a task has no update, write "no update from owner". Don't guess. Under 150 words.
