A summer morning walk across central Yerevan, filmed in 4K. Sixteen streets, squares and parks, one continuous take, no commentary. Mornings here start late. At eight the centre is still quiet; by eleven the tables are full, the fountains are on and the whole city is outside. This walk starts on Buzand and ends on Koghbatsi, and it's close to the route I'd give anyone visiting for the first time, it takes in almost everything worth seeing in the centre without ever needing a taxi. THE ROUTE Buzand Street: a quiet, stepped pedestrian street most visitors miss entirely, even though it's five minutes from the main square. Cafés, small shops, and shade the whole way up. Republic Square: the centre of the city and the obvious place to start. Pink and cream tuff facades, the History Museum at the head of it, and the fountains running all summer. Abovyan Street: one of the oldest streets in Yerevan, and still one of the best for older architecture in the centre. Charles Aznavour Square: the Moscow Cinema. In summer this is one of the busiest corners in the city. Tumanyan Street: the connector between the old centre and the Opera district, lined with restaurants. Swan Lake: a small artificial lake beside the Opera. An ice rink in winter, and always people sitting along the edge of it. Opera House: Tamanyan's building, and the informal centre of gravity for the whole city. Everyone meets here. Mashtots Avenue: the main artery, running from the centre up toward the Matenadaran. Saryan Park: a strip of green off Mashtots, and a good place to see how people here actually spend a weekday morning. Cascade: the limestone stairway with the sculpture garden at its base. Worth climbing for the Ararat view on a clear day. Isahakyan Street: quiet and residential, directly below the Cascade. Moskovyan Street: leafy, low-rise, and one of the most pleasant streets in the city to simply walk down. Saryan Street: Yerevan's wine street. Calm in the morning, and a completely different place after eight in the evening. Pushkin Street: cafés and small bars, busy from mid-morning onward. Northern Avenue : the pedestrian avenue linking Republic Square to the Opera. Wide, modern, and always full of people. Koghbatsi Street: where the walk ends, don't miss Fein.
