Asics Metaspeed Sky Tokyo vs Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 | Is the Fastest the Most Efficient?

Which is more important in a super shoe — being fast, or being efficient? A few months ago, I tested some of the fastest running shoes on the market to see which could make me run the fastest – for that check out    • How Much Faster Are Super Shoes, Really?  . Two shoes stood out from the rest: the Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 and ASICS Metaspeed Sky Tokyo. But this time, I'm testing them in a completely different way. I'll run in both shoes at three different paces, from around marathon pace through to 5K effort and compare my heart rate to see whether one allows me to run the same pace with less effort. It's not exactly a laboratory test. I'm working with what I've got! And the results are specific to me and my running mechanics. But I'm hoping it will give me a better idea of which shoe I should be reaching for on race day and maybe give you an idea of the differences between the shoes.
