Almost every Aframax oil tanker leaving Trans Mountain's Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby sails at only about 75-80% of its typical 725,000-barrel capacity, because of the shallow channel at the Second Narrows in Burrard Inlet. Dredging is now underway and is due to finish by February 2027 - and most of the extra oil is headed to Asia. We look at the October record at Westridge, Trans Mountain running full and rationed, where its crude goes (China first), what America's own Energy Information Administration wrote about it, California's closing refineries, Prime Minister Carney's fast-tracked 1-million-barrel-a-day Pacific Link pipeline, and Strathcona's Prince Rupert pitch against the north coast tanker ban. Plus the strongest arguments on the other side. ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 The number 1:04 The ship 1:40 The Second Narrows 3:17 A full pipe 4:59 Where the oil goes 6:29 The American side 7:53 Pacific Link 8:46 Prince Rupert 9:42 The other side
