The Sea Takes Its Own | The Drunken Bodhráns & Sofia’s Soul | Official Music Video

Seven seals come ashore on a moonlit night. A fisherman takes one of their skins, leaving a selkie unable to return to the sea. The Sea Takes Its Own is a dark Celtic folk duet inspired by selkie folklore. The Drunken Bodhráns tell the fisherman’s side of the story, while Sofia’s Soul gives voice to the woman whose freedom he took. Years pass, children are born, and he calls their life together love. She remembers the skin he hid—and the home she was denied. This is a story of captivity, remorse and the difficult choice to reclaim a life of your own. The song will appear on Beyond The Hawthorne Gate, the new album by The Drunken Bodhráns, releasing 23 October 2026. Every song on the album draws from Irish folklore and legends. Featured artists across the album: Ava Lane, MightyW Project Official, Sofia’s Soul, Tia.Herzmensch Music and One Irish.
