In this episode of Learn With Me, I attempt to write Drone Metal for the very first time! Drone metal is defined by heavy distortion, feedback, sustained tones, slow tempos, extended track lengths, and ultra-low tuned guitars. Drawing inspiration from pioneer bands like Sunn O))), Earth, Boris, and Cough, I dive into building a massive wall of sound using Ableton Live set to a slow 55 BPM. Support the channel: https://buymeacoffee.com/soundsfromth... 🍵 In this session, I cover: Low-Tuned Les Paul: Tuning my heavily modded Les Paul (with Gibson Burstbucker Pros) down to Drop A, using extremely old, rusty strings for a dull, heavy tone. Pedalboard & Fuzz Layering: Routing my guitar through Neural DSP's Morgan Amp Suite and pushing physical pedals like the EarthQuaker Devices Mandrake and His Matisse to double-track thick stereo rhythm layers. FX & Glitchy Textures: Experimenting with the Old Blood Noise Endeavors Dark Light (Crush Delay), EQD Avalanche Run, and Baby Audio Transit 2 to generate sustained feedback, spacey reverbs, and glitchy pitch shifts. Bass & Low-End Growl: Tracking fuzz bass with Guitar Rig 7's "Maxed Bass" preset, adding a pitch shifter pitched an octave lower for extra sub-growl. Hybrid Percussion & Drums: Blending pitch-shifted digital techno kicks, Addictive Drums sample triggering, and acoustic drum tracking crushed through Waves BB Tubes saturation. Mastering: Resolving a accidental master bus low-cut EQ error and mastering the track with iZotope Ozone 11.
