Bank Holiday Steam on the Gartell Light Railway - 30/08/15

Located on a former section of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway, on the outskirts of Templecombe, is the privately owned Gartell Light Railway. Opened in 1990, the two foot gauge railway operates over a section of around 3/4 of a mile, running between the stations and loops of Common Lane, Pinesway Junction, Park Lane and Tower View. Throughout the year, the Gartell Family open the railway to the public, and the Bank Holiday weekend in August was just one of the few weekends in the calendar year where we were able to visit this rather unique location. An intensive three train service was in operation, with services running every 20 minutes. This would also feature parallel running out of Pinesway Junction, as well as non-stop services.
