Wax & Soul · Record No.3 — "Devagar" (Portuguese for "slowly")
Eighteen songs in no hurry. Side A waits on a shop's front step under a sign that says "já volto", rides the wrong bus to the end of the line on purpose, and walks out to the sandbar at low tide. Side B dances with two left feet at a cousin's wedding, borrows a bike that's far too tall, writes an initial in sunscreen, and leaves the dishes for tomorrow.
Bossa nova underneath, soul in the voice. Four tracks are instrumental, one is sung without words, three are duets, and four slip into a little Portuguese.
No people this time, only places. Every song gets its own oil pastel painting of somewhere in the sun — a granite mountain over a still bay, an empty lifeguard tower, a hammock between two palms, a long jetty over clear water.
Leave it on for focus, for reading, for a slow drive — no hurry.
Which song slowed you down? Tell us in the comments.

LINER NOTES
A1 Já Volto — The sign on the door says "já volto". Could mean an hour, could mean a week. I've got nowhere to be.
A2 Tile Floor — Instrumental. Shutters half closed, cool tiles underfoot.
A3 Follow the Shade — Every half an hour the light moves on. Follow the shade, inch by inch.
A4 Wrong Bus — Number nine, not nineteen. Who's in a hurry? Let it go around again.
A5 You Pick — "You pick." "No, you pick." … Toast it is. (a duet)
A6 Low Tide — Water's gone out so far, past the yellow flags. Don't check the time.
A7 Double Parked — Instrumental. Hazards on, back in a minute.
A8 Sei Lá — "So what are you two?" Sei lá. His toothbrush in my cup.
A9 Half the Curtain — Light wants to come in. I let it in halfway. Ten more minutes.
B1 Two Left Feet — Cousin's wedding, table nine. Your aunt is filming this. Bora! (a duet)
B2 Short Cut — Instrumental. The way only the locals know.
B3 Borrowed Bike — Seat up to my ribs, tiptoe at every light. Next time, lower it.
B4 Hum It for Me — You pin the towels down, two pegs at a time. Hum it for me, one more time.
B5 Written in Sunscreen — I drew a little letter right between your shoulders. Everybody saw it — everyone but you.
B6 Escalator — No words. Stand still and let it carry you.
B7 Devagar — "Say it slower." "Devagar." "Like we've got all day." "We do." (a duet)
B8 Leave the Dishes — They're not going anywhere. There's the last of the cake, and one clean fork.
B9 Folded Chairs — Instrumental. Everyone's gone; the sea is still there.
