The Entire Story of the Exodus | Bible for Sleep
This channel has already followed one man's entire life, from a river's edge to a mountain top, in a recent video, and has already examined one evening at the sea in close detail in another. This recording does not repeat either of them. The man who led the nation out, and the single night the sea divided, are both mentioned only briefly here. What this recording follows instead is the nation itself across roughly forty years: what it was fed, what law it was given, what it built with its own hands, what it did to itself at least once, and what, in the end, it lost.
A large part of this recording covers ground not covered elsewhere on this channel before: the pattern for the tabernacle shown on the mountain, an offering so large the people had to be told to stop bringing it, two craftsmen named and described as filled with the spirit of God for skilled work rather than for prophecy, the day the whole camp stood still, a priestly blessing in three lines, a rod that budded overnight, two full censuses of the same nation taken thirty eight years apart, two and a half tribes asking to settle before anyone crossed the river, and the entire journey's itinerary, station by station, in the text's own words.
This video is intended for relaxation and sleep. It is narrated by an AI voice reading public domain scripture and is an independent educational project. It is not affiliated with, and does not speak for, any church, denomination or ministry, and it does not adjudicate between different Christian traditions' readings of contested passages. Nothing in this recording is medical advice, a treatment for insomnia, anxiety, grief or any other condition, or a substitute for medical care.
Two open questions are named in this recording and deliberately left open. The text states that a mixed multitude went up out of Egypt together with the nation without ever naming who they were, and this recording does not guess. The itinerary near the end of the book of Numbers names more than forty stations along the wilderness route, and not every one of them can be matched with confidence to a known location today, so this recording reads the list as the text gives it rather than proposing an identification for each name.
This is a commentary style reading. No passage is looped or repeated; each one listed below is read once, in the order given.
Passages read in this video, in full or in part, every one with book, chapter and verse, in the order they are read:
Exodus 1, the affliction in Egypt and the midwives who defied Pharaoh
Exodus 7 through 10, the plagues, told briefly, told at greater length in a recent video on this channel
Exodus 12, the Passover instituted, with emphasis on the instruction to explain it to a child
Exodus 12:31-42, the departure from Egypt
Exodus 14, the crossing of the sea, told in a few lines only, read in full in an earlier video on this channel and told at moderate length in another
Exodus 19:1-8, the arrival at Sinai and the covenant proposed
Exodus 20:1-17, the ten commandments, read in full
Exodus 24:1-8, the book of the covenant and the blood cast on the people
Exodus 32, the golden calf, told briefly, centered on Moses's intercession rather than the sin itself
Exodus 25, the pattern for the tabernacle, the ark and the mercy seat
Exodus 31, 35 and 36, the craftsmen named for the work, and the offering the people were told to stop bringing
Exodus 40, the tabernacle completed, and the glory that filled it
Numbers 6:22-27, the priestly blessing
Leviticus 16, the Day of Atonement
Numbers 1 and 2, the census, and the camp ordered under its own standards
Numbers 9:1-14, the provision made for a second Passover
Numbers 13, the twelve men sent to search the land, with the full roll of their names
Numbers 14, the weeping, the sentence of forty years, and a defeated attempt to reverse it, told at greater length in a recent video on this channel
Numbers 17, Aaron's rod, found budded overnight
Numbers 19:1-10, the statute of the red heifer
Numbers 26, the second census, taken near the end of the forty years
Numbers 32, Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh ask to settle before the Jordan
Numbers 33, the itinerary of the whole journey, station by station
Deuteronomy 1:1-8, Moses's address begins, on the plains of Moab
Deuteronomy 6:4-9, the Shema
Deuteronomy 8, a reflection on the forty years in the wilderness
Deuteronomy 27 and 28, the blessing and the curse set before the nation
