In Acts 5:12–16, the early church lives and ministers openly despite opposition from the religious authorities. The apostles perform signs and wonders, believers gather publicly, and their faithful witness produces several reactions: some are afraid, many respect them, and more and more people place their faith in Jesus.
Their influence did not come from impressive programs or clever promotion. People saw a community that boldly proclaimed the gospel, loved others well, cared for those in need, and pointed beyond itself to Jesus.
Our culture is also curious yet skeptical. Many people distrust institutions, have been hurt by Christians, or have never experienced genuine Christian community. The church must respond by faithfully living out the gospel—serving without expecting anything in return, creating a place where lonely people can belong, walking beside those who are hurting, and helping people discover purpose in God’s kingdom.
Every Christian helps shape what others believe about the church and about Jesus. We do not need everyone to admire or approve of us. We simply want to live with enough faithfulness that through our love, community, and witness, people can clearly see Christ.
Even in a skeptical culture, a faithful church can point people to Jesus.
