A sound deal, the papers said. But the people who signed it were named Busch. Months earlier, the heir at the head of the table had told the company's wholesalers it would never be sold on his watch. In 1911, his great-great-grandfather set a crown of diamonds and pearls on his wife's head in Pasadena. In 1934, a five-word note was left in a bedroom at Grant's Farm. In 1975, a son went to the board and removed his grieving father. By 2008, the family that once owned the entire brewery held about four percent of it. Nobody can find the crown today.
