Week 43 | Bartimaeus: Why he shouts all the more | Bible365

Focus Bible Verse: Mark 10:48, “Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more…” The story of Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, is a fascinating and favorite read found in multiple gospels, and although it’s not a long read, it’s packed full of precious gifts. It’s a story that can be analyzed in so many different directions. We could look at how Jesus stops and notices Bartimaeus. We could look at the fickle crowd who scolds Bartimaeus and then changes their tune. We could dissect the question Jesus asks Bartimaeus and how Bartimaeus answers. We could deep dive into how well Bartimaeus “sees” and how others don’t. All of this is found in one small passage, and I touch on all of those, but for me, the Spirit led me to see the courage and the desperation of Bartimaeus and how he doesn’t let shame hold him back and because he doesn’t, shame doesn’t get the final word, Jesus does.
