He opens his short program with a quad toe-triple toe, and the first two elements in his free skate are back-to-back quadruple toe loops, one with a triple toe–and in this case, also a double loop–tacked on the end. Times extract] Yagudin Captures World Title Again March 22, 2002 Much has happened to Alexei Yagudin in the last year. He lost the world championship after winning it three years in a row. He had leg injuries, dropped 20 pounds, then regained most of it, and came back to win the Games. On Thursday, he recaptured the men’s free skate at the World Figure Skating Championships at Nagano, Japan, and became the first skater to win skating’s four major titles in one season: the Grand Prix final, European championship, Games and worlds. He edged American Tim Goebel, who improved on his third-place finish at the Winter Games.
