Doris Day was America's sweetheart, the top box office star of the early 1960s and the voice of "Que Sera, Sera". But the houses behind that smile tell a darker story. This documentary follows her homes, from a Cincinnati childhood that ended in a train crash, through the Beverly Hills house on North Crescent Drive where about $20 million of her earnings quietly disappeared, to the gated hilltop estate in Carmel Valley where she spent nearly 40 years with her dogs. Using court records, her own words, auction results and real estate listings, we trace the violent first marriage, the husband who died leaving her in debt and committed to a TV show she never wanted, the $22.8 million judgment she won but never fully collected, and the Cielo Drive house where her son Terry Melcher once lived, months before it became one of the most infamous addresses in America. Then we follow what happened to everything she owned after her death in 2019, and why her last husband's complaint that she "preferred the company of dogs" turned out to be the truest thing anyone ever said about her.
