The Highland distillery, founded in 1839, had an impressive dishwasher millionaire story: Built in the smallest corner of the northernmost Highlands, financed by income from the illegal opium trade, the buildings fell victim to a mine explosion in 1920 as the British Royal Navy was close to the coast the distillery produced deep-sea mines. A lawsuit that lasted several years followed up to the British House of Lords. Since then, the brand has been riding a wave of success and regularly achieves record prices at auctions.
