🐕 CREATING ENGAGEMENT, AROUSAL & BETTER HEELING In this training session, Beckie is learning how to create more engagement and arousal in her dog, then channel that energy into more animated and focused heeling. Rather than beginning with formal obedience, we first want to create a dog that is emotionally engaged with the handler and eager to participate. 🎯 USING HELPER-STYLE MOVEMENT Beckie is learning to use movement and body language similar to some of the techniques a helper might use during protection training. The goal isn't protection work itself. We're borrowing the idea of movement creating excitement and anticipation so Beckie can become more interesting to her dog. We want to create: 🐕 More engagement 🔥 More arousal 👀 Stronger focus on the handler ⚡ Faster responses 🎯 More energetic heeling Once we have that emotional state, we can transition directly into obedience. The progression becomes: MOVEMENT → AROUSAL → ENGAGEMENT → HEELING Instead of asking the dog to heel first and then trying to manufacture enthusiasm, we're creating the enthusiasm before asking for the behavior. This can completely change the picture of the heeling exercise. The dog is no longer simply following the handler because it understands the position. The dog is actively participating because the handler has become part of the reward and part of the game. That is where we begin to see more animation, intensity, attention and enthusiasm in the finished heeling. CREATE THE EMOTION FIRST — THEN PUT THAT EMOTION INTO THE BEHAVIOR. That philosophy is one of the reasons I often say: MOTION CREATES EMOTION. 🐾 PRODOGZ DOG TRAINING https://www.prodogz.com 🏆 ONLINE IGP & SCHUTZHUND COACHING https://www.igpcoach.com 🐕 ROGUE VALLEY SCHUTZHUND CLUB https://www.rvschutzhund.com 📞 CONTACT PRODOGZ Office: 541-608-2857 Call/Text: 541-944-6419 ⭐ 30+ YEARS OF REAL-WORLD DOG TRAINING
