All I wanted to do was sit by the fire and enjoy my newly installed wood stove. After everything I went through installing that DuraVent chimney, I figured I'd earned a little relaxation. BUT NOPE! There's always something that needs doing around here! Welcome back to Sam's Doing Stuff, where one project gets finished and another one is already waiting! We start the morning inside my 40×40 barn, enjoying the warmth of my grandfather's old wood stove. After the frustrating DIY chimney installation in the last video, it sure feels good to finally sit back and enjoy the results. I'm already imagining cold winter mornings when I can fire up the stove, let the barn warm up and get to work in comfort. But before long, it's time to get off my butt! First, I show you a few things I've accomplished around the property, including removing dangerous dead limbs from an oak tree using the rented boom lift, finishing a bulk firewood order and adding 10 more IBC totes to my firewood operation. Then it's time for some overdue maintenance on my Kubota BX2380 compact tractor. The original R4 tires are worn out, and I've had replacements sitting around for years. I finally get the new tires installed and talk about why I still love this little tractor, even though my work has outgrown its capabilities. I'm also reconsidering my plans for a new Bad Boy Terrain loader. A viewer pointed out a potential problem with the cab and loader design that could make certain jobs around my woodyard difficult. Could an articulated loader be a better choice? The search for the right machine continues! Next, it's back to making firewood with the Eastonmade Axis log splitter and FHC10 hopper conveyor. A neighbor brought me his own 275-gallon IBC tote to fill with loose firewood, so I decided to see how long it would take. About 30 minutes later, the basket is full! It's another interesting option for selling firewood without having to deliver and retrieve my own baskets. And the best part? I'm doing it all inside the barn on a rainy day! Finally, it's time to tackle the next BIG project. CONCRETE! The old wooden ramp between my barns is falling apart, and it's time to replace it with something permanent. I tear out the old ramp, clean up the area and begin preparing for a new 8-foot-wide concrete ramp. But I've decided to take the project a step further. I'm also building a new loading dock! The plan is to construct a two-foot-high loading dock beside the ramp so I can load firewood and other materials directly into my dump trailer. Between the new concrete ramp and loading dock, moving equipment, firewood baskets and materials around the barns should become much easier. I get the area cleaned up, take measurements and pick up lumber and other supplies to begin the construction. The actual building starts in the next video, and eventually we'll be pouring concrete! Winter is coming, and there's still plenty to accomplish before the snow flies. Thanks for watching Sam's Doing Stuff! Whether it's firewood production, tractor maintenance, barn improvements, DIY construction or simply trying to enjoy a quiet morning by the wood stove, there's always another project waiting.
