Why Buffalo Herds Are More Dangerous to Lions Than Any Predator

Why Buffalo Herds Are More Dangerous to Lions Than Any Predator A lioness lay in the dust twenty feet from a herd of a hundred buffalo. Eleven minutes later, she was dead — trampled and gored by the herd itself. Lions kill buffalo every week across Africa. But buffalo kill more lions than any predator except humans. A single bull weighs 2,000 pounds, runs 35 mph, and can throw a lion thirty feet on horns fused into a solid bone helmet. When one calf is grabbed, the distress call brings the entire herd — sometimes hundreds strong — charging as one wall of muscle and horn. This is the real math behind Africa's most dangerous standoff, and why even lions choose to walk away. #Buffalo #Lions #Africa #WildlifePredators
