Syrinxes Not Related to Chiari Malformations Presented by: Michael Levy, MD The presence of syringomyelia is varied in patients with Chiari type 1 malformations ranging from approximately 35-70%. Additionally, the radiographic presence of a syrinx is not necessarily associated with any presenting signs or symptoms. The current talk will discuss syrinxes that are unrelated to Chiari malformations. I will define the various types of fluid accumulation within the spinal cord between syringomyelia and hydromyelia. I will additionally address the traumatic, atraumatic, and tumor-based origins of primary or acquired syrinx. Presentation recorded live at ASAP's 37th Annual Conference Iowa City, IA, July 2025 See more conference videos at https://asap.org/conferences The American Syringomyelia & Chiari Alliance Project's national conferences bring together world renowned experts in the field of Chiari malformation, syringomyelia and related disorders. www.ASAP.org
