Episode 1370 Lucille (Jennifer Moss) is forced to run the Kabin on her own as Rita (Barbara Knox) has got the flu. The doctor has advised Maggie (Irene Sutcliffe) that Betty (Betty Driver) is in shock following Cyril’s (William Moore) death and she simply needs time to recover. Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) helps Hilda (Jean Alexander) compose a letter of condolence to Betty. Hilda wants to express her sympathy following Cyril’s death, although she doesn’t know what to write. Maggie struggles as Betty remains confused and detached. Maggie decides not to let Betty attend the funeral in case it sends her over the edge. Ray (Neville Buswell) gives Hilda a letter addressed to Stan (Bernard Youens) from the Town Hall. Billy (Kenneth Farrington) annoys Ray by asking Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) to work behind the Rovers bar. Emily and Ernie (Stephen Hancock) fear that no one appears willing to assume the caretaker position at the community centre, although Stan has submitted an application for himself and Hilda as the letter from the town hall states that the council are considering his application. Sergeant Daniels (Bernard Gallagher) advises Maggie against having Betty come to live with her, but Maggie had already decided it was a bad idea based on past experiences. As the mourners prepare to leave for the funeral, Betty surprises everyone by appearing dressed up and in a fit state of mind.
