A favored son, an empty pit, twenty shekels of silver, and a brother who weeps instead of taking revenge. "As for you, what you intended against me for evil, God intended for good, in order to accomplish a day like this—to preserve the lives of many people." (Genesis 50:20, BSB) God Intended for Good walks through Genesis 37 to 50 in order. Israel gives Joseph "a robe of many colors" (Genesis 37:3, BSB), and his brothers "hated him and could not speak a kind word to him" (Genesis 37:4, BSB). They throw him into a pit that was "empty, with no water in it" (Genesis 37:24, BSB) and sell him "for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt" (Genesis 37:28, BSB). In Potiphar's house "the LORD was with Joseph" (Genesis 39:2, BSB), and in the dungeon "the LORD was with him and extended kindness to him" (Genesis 39:21, BSB). Before Pharaoh, Joseph takes no credit: "but God will give Pharaoh a sound answer." (Genesis 41:16, BSB). Years later, the brothers who sold him come down for grain and bow before a ruler they do not recognize. "Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come near me.” And they did so. “I am Joseph, your brother,” he said, “the one you sold into Egypt!" (Genesis 45:4, BSB) "And now, do not be distressed or angry with yourselves that you sold me into this place, because it was to save lives that God sent me before you." (Genesis 45:5, BSB) "But Joseph replied, “Do not be afraid. Am I in the place of God?" (Genesis 50:19, BSB) "Therefore do not be afraid. I will provide for you and your little ones.” So Joseph reassured his brothers and spoke kindly to them." (Genesis 50:21, BSB) Genesis does not announce the cross, but the New Testament shows the same pattern at its center. Peter holds both truths together without blurring them: Jesus "was delivered up by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross." (Acts 2:23, BSB). Real guilt, and a purpose deeper than the guilt. "But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep Him in its grip." (Acts 2:24, BSB). Joseph was sent ahead to preserve lives; the Father "did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all" (Romans 8:32, BSB), and the question that follows answers itself: "how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:32, BSB) "And Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath and said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.”" (Genesis 50:25, BSB) 0:00 Intro 0:28 Verse 1 0:45 The pit 0:59 Sold 1:12 Hook 1:28 Potiphar's house 1:41 The dungeon 1:54 Pharaoh's court 2:07 The brothers bow 2:19 I am Joseph 2:30 Hook 2:47 Jacob goes down 3:06 Bridge 3:27 Final Hook 3:48 Gospel 4:12 Outro The visuals are animated line art drawn in code, with no AI imagery.
