Buick Evolution (1903 - 2018) ►Buick traces its roots to 1903, when David Dunbar Buick established the Buick Motor Company in Detroit. Buick quickly became known for engineering innovation, particularly its early use of the overhead-valve engine. In 1908, Buick became one of the founding brands of General Motors, helping GM establish itself as a major American automotive company. During the 1920s–1950s, Buick developed a reputation as a premium American brand, positioned above Chevrolet and Pontiac but generally below Cadillac. Models such as the Roadmaster and Super became symbols of comfort, power, and prestige. In the 1950s and 1960s, Buick embraced the era of large American cars, powerful V8 engines, and distinctive styling. Its famous Tri-Shield emblem became closely associated with the brand. During the 1970s and 1980s, fuel crises and changing consumer preferences pushed Buick toward smaller, more efficient vehicles. The brand also became increasingly important in the growing American luxury market. In the 1990s and 2000s, Buick shifted toward a more modern premium identity, with models such as the LeSabre, Park Avenue, and later the Enclave SUV. Today, Buick remains part of General Motors, with a strong focus on premium SUVs and crossovers, particularly for the Chinese and North American markets.
