In this 4K 60fps HDR Binaural video, I documented the route through the Munich Olympic Village within the historic 1972 Olympic grounds. The route starts at Olympiazentrum U-Bahn station, leads through the pathways of the Student Village bungalows, and concludes at the abandoned Olympiastadion railway station.

🏛️ ARCHITECTURE HISTORY
Designed by Heinle, Wischer und Partner following a 1967 architectural competition and completed in 1972, Munich's Olympic Village was created as a high-density residential complex for the 1972 Summer Olympics. Its primary urban concept centers on strict multi-level grade separation, routing all motor vehicle traffic and delivery logistics through an underground road network to maintain a completely car-free surface level for pedestrians.
Olympic Village | Student Bungalows:
Designed by Werner Wirsing and completed in 1972, the Student Village originally served as housing for female athletes during the Games before converting to student residences.
Between 2007 and 2010, the original high-density bungalow section was demolished and rebuilt due to fire safety regulations and energy standards, preserving Wirsing's original architectural layout and two-story modular concept. A defining tradition of the village requires each resident to paint and customize their bungalow front facade upon moving in, creating an ever-changing open-air street art gallery along the narrow pedestrian alleys.
Olympic Station | Abandoned Station:
Designed by Deutsche Bundesbahn architects and opened in 1972, the multi-platform terminal station was purpose-built as a high-capacity transit hub to handle major spectator volumes during the 1972 Summer Olympics. Following its final passenger service during the 1988 European Football Championship, regular operations permanently ceased, leading to its official decommissioning in 1989 and designation as a protected historic monument in 1990. Today, the unmaintained concrete platforms and overgrown track beds stand in a state of natural decay, making it one of Munich's most well-known lost places.

🌳 OLYMPIC PARK & DIMENSIONS
Covering an area of approximately 85 hectares in Munich's Milbertshofen-Am Hart district, Olympiapark was built for the 1972 Summer Olympics on the former Oberwiesenfeld airfield. Designed as a unified landscape and architectural masterwork, it has evolved into one of the city's most significant cultural, recreational, and architectural landmarks.
