Struck the rail at turbine nine tonight. The echo came back before I swung. ________________________________ The hall is long enough that its far end is weather. Turbines line both walls, each housing as tall as a cathedral, their intake mouths black. The floor flooded long ago and the water has settled so flat that the whole hall stands in it a second time, upside down. Mist hangs in bands at different heights. Rubble from the roof lies in heaps along the walls where it fell and was never cleared. Brass plates on the housings still give their output in figures no one here has needed for centuries.
