Rain had followed the traveler into Ellwyn Wood since early morning. It was not a storm, only a patient autumn rain that darkened every trunk and gathered along the edges of the old path. The traveler was heading for Rowan Bridge, the safest crossing before the forest road divided deeper among the hills. If the river rose much farther, the longer southern route would become necessary. By midmorning, the familiar path had begun to disappear beneath yellow leaves. Fresh deer tracks appeared in the mud beside it. At first they followed the road, but shortly before the river they turned sharply between two rowan trees. The traveler stopped. The bridge should have been straight ahead, yet the sound of the water had become louder than expected. A few steps farther revealed the reason. A narrow stream that was usually no more than a ditch had overflowed during the night and cut across the path. Brown leaves spun in the current, carrying small branches toward the river. The deer tracks continued along the higher ground. Rather than wade through the cold water, the traveler followed them. The detour curved between moss-covered stones and brought the traveler to the bridge from above. Rowan Bridge itself was intact, but one end of the usual approach had been washed away. The animals had found the safer path before any traveler had. Halfway across, the traveler stopped beneath the dripping branches. The river below was broad and restless, yet among the rain a patch of red rowan berries remained bright against the grey water. On the far bank, the deer tracks reappeared for only a few yards before vanishing into ferns. There was nothing magical about what had happened. No hidden door, no ancient voice, no impossible light. Only a forest quietly changing its roads according to water, weather and the movements of animals. The traveler crossed to the other side and marked the safer turn with three small stones for whoever came next. By afternoon, the rain had softened. Behind the traveler, Rowan Bridge disappeared gradually into silver mist, and the temporary path through the trees began to look as though it had always been there. Three hours of Celtic fantasy music and medieval forest ambience from Awenreach, shaped for reading, studying, writing, relaxation and quiet work among rain-soaked woods and ancient paths.
