Dori's Week 3 Board & Train | Recall, Leave It & Focus Around Distractions | Dog Training

Dori is kicking off her third week of Board & Train at Best Paw Forward Dog Training in Perkasie, PA! This week, we're increasing distractions and challenging Dori to stay focused and responsive, even when unexpected situations arise. During today's training session, Dori worked on: Attention & Engagement: Staying focused on her handler, even with distractions nearby. Basic Obedience: Practicing foundational commands in a higher-distraction environment. Leave It: Learning to disengage from a person unexpectedly walking by and redirect her attention back to her handler. Recall with Distractions: Responding when called, even when something exciting catches her attention. Impulse Control: Building the ability to think, listen, and make better choices when excited. Why is this training so important for Dori? One of Dori's biggest challenges at home is becoming overly excited when playing with her sibling. When dogs get overstimulated during play, it can become difficult for owners to interrupt the excitement and regain their attention. That's why we're focusing so heavily on reliable recall, leave it, and engagement around distractions! We want Dori to understand that even when something exciting is happening, she still needs to respond to her handler. By practicing these skills around unexpected distractions, like a person suddenly walking by, we're helping Dori build the foundation she needs to disengage from her sibling during play, come when called, and settle before things escalate. The goal isn't just obedience in a quiet environment. It's building reliable communication and control when it matters most! As Dori progresses through her final weeks of training, we'll continue challenging her with real-life distractions while setting her up for success. Consistency and continued practice at home will be essential to transferring these skills into everyday situations, especially when managing playtime with her sibling.
