Do you have someone in your family you love dearly...but you disagree about things that really matter? ❤️
Is it better to speak your mind, keep the peace, or simply accept that you may never see eye to eye?
With a family gathering coming up, I've been thinking a lot about this. I love my family, but we don't always agree. And sometimes those differences go beyond little things like where to eat dinner or whose turn it is to host Thanksgiving!
In today's video, "I Love My Family... But We Don't Always Agree," I'm wrestling with a question I suspect many of us have asked ourselves: Can we love each other, respect our differences, and still enjoy being together without trying to change each other's minds?
As a 63-year-old former teacher, mom of six (four adopted), and divorced woman who's navigated plenty of life's unexpected challenges—including psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and weight struggles—I've learned that relationships can be complicated. And believe me, raising six children taught me that sharing a home certainly doesn't guarantee sharing an opinion! 😂
But here's what I've been wondering lately...
Is keeping the peace the same thing as being at peace?
I don't want to spend precious time with people I love debating everything we see differently. But I also don't want to feel that loving someone means I have to hide who I am or pretend I believe something I don't.
Maybe there's a difference between choosing not to argue and choosing not to stand up for ourselves.
Maybe we can hold on to our convictions without expecting everyone else to share them.
And maybe, just maybe, not every disagreement needs a winner.
I'm certainly not claiming to have figured this out! I'm still learning how to navigate family disagreements, healthy boundaries, and loving people whose perspectives are different from mine.
That's what Coffee, Chaos and Grace is all about. Honest conversations about family, relationships, starting over, personal growth, and all those complicated little pieces of life that don't come with an instruction manual.
☕ I'd really love to hear from you: When a family member brings up something you strongly disagree about, do you speak up, change the subject, or let it go?
There isn't one right answer, and I'd love for us to share our experiences with kindness and respect. You never know who might need to hear your perspective today.
If this conversation resonates with you, please give the video a like, subscribe to Coffee, Chaos and Grace, and join us in the comments. We're building a community where we can be honest, laugh at ourselves occasionally, and learn from one another—even when we don't always agree.
Because maybe loving each other doesn't mean we have to think alike. Maybe it means making room for our differences while remembering what connects us.
Thanks for sharing a little of your day with me. And remember, there's always room for one more at our coffee table. ☕❤️
