The magnetic compass is a pendulous card in a bowl of liquid, and because the earth's field dips into the ground over the UK, the card reads correctly only while it is level. On an easterly or westerly heading, accelerating shows a turn towards north and decelerating a turn towards south; in a turn the errors are largest through north and south, where in the northern hemisphere the compass lags through north and leads through south. The video shows when to roll out early or late, and why you steer by the heading indicator in a turn and set it from the compass only straight and level at a constant speed.
