A night out roller skating turned into one of the most interesting things I’ve ever witnessed: my friend’s wrist pain pretty much disappeared after a conversation in the car. Nothing had been treated. We didn’t even know what was wrong yet. So what changed?
In this video, I’m unpacking what that experience made me think about pain perception, the mind-body connection, co-regulation, and the healing potential of simply being seen by another person. From two friends talking in a car at midnight, to the relationship between a doctor and patient, to a strangely calming experience in a KFC line, I keep coming back to the same question: how much do we affect each other just by being present?
This isn’t to suggest that physical symptoms aren’t real or that we can simply think our way out of pain. The relationship between our minds, bodies, nervous systems and physical symptoms is far more complex than that, and that complexity is exactly what I love exploring here.
If you’ve ever noticed yourself feeling physically or emotionally lighter after talking to someone, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
