Five Men Dead on One Mile of Trail | Is Lansing Facing a Serial Killer?

Five men were found dead or critically injured along roughly one mile of the Lansing River Trail between October 2025 and August 2026. Four suffered severe facial or head trauma. All were believed to be unhoused. Police say the cases may be related, but they have not confirmed a serial killer. This documentary examines the deaths of Gino Chouinard, Denis Dunnebacke, Robert William Smith, Daniel Lusk and Louis Woodruff; the evidence that may connect them; and the reasons Daniel Lusk’s stabbing may be an outlier. Edward Joseph Smith has been charged with open murder in Lusk’s death. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty, and police have not named him as a suspect in the other four cases. Case status: This video reflects public reporting available as of October 8, 2026. Some medical rulings remain unresolved, and the investigation is active.
