One Key Ended a Decades-Old Mystery | The Unknown Wanderer

In December 1982, a man died in Boise, Idaho, leaving cash, keys and a name investigators could not verify. For decades, he was known as the Unknown Wanderer. An old key eventually pointed detectives toward Jacksonville property records. A relative and DNA evidence helped establish his identity: Mathew Francis Betkouski. This documentary follows the identification, the history investigators can now examine, and the proposed connection to the unsolved Chicago-area Tylenol murders. It also explains the missing evidence and the important difference between identifying an unknown man and proving responsibility for a crime. Betkouski has not been established as the Tylenol murderer. The proposed connection remains unproven. Case status and public reporting are presented as of September 29, 2026. Featuring archival photographs, excerpts from September 2026 news coverage, and editorial timelines. Historical news imagery is identified in the video; editorial diagrams are not original evidence exhibits.
