With festive market stalls, warming Glühwein and snowy mountain scenery, this Swiss Winter Escape takes us into a town we were so happy to discover. ✨🏔️ Our afternoon starts at the station, with time to wander through town before daylight fades. We explore the riverside and festive shopping streets, stopping whenever something catches our eye. The snowy Bernese Alps add to the winter setting, while the soft golden-hour light gives way to an early dusk. Soon, the Christmas decorations are doing all the brightening up! 🚶‍♀️🌅🌊 The Christmas market is where we really slow down. We browse artisan products, colorful toys and decorations, then choose a few Christmas souvenirs to take home. Steam rises from the food stalls, and the smell of hot festive street food keeps tempting us to stop again. 🎁🧸🛍️ Of course, we try the Glühwein too! 🍷❄️ A warm cup of spiced mulled wine feels especially welcome in the cold evening air. Around us, people chat, smile and raise their drinks beneath the lights. Those little moments stayed with us: browsing the stalls without rushing, warming our hands around a cup, and enjoying an evening that seemed as much for local friends and families as for visitors. 💛🎄 During our visit, Thun felt calm but never dull. There were lively conversations and excited locals, yet we noticed only a few other tourists like ourselves. Lake Thun, or Thunersee, often features in trips around Interlaken; this afternoon reminded us to leave time for the town at its western end as well.
