In Exodus chapter 8, the sovereign hand of God brings three successive judgments upon Egypt: frogs swarming the entire land, gnats rising from the dust, and dense swarms of insects devastating Egyptian territory. As Egypt's magicians fail to duplicate the gnats and openly confess, "This is the finger of God," the Lord establishes a miraculous separation between Egypt and the land of Goshen, completely shielding His covenant people from the plague.
When Pharaoh pleads for relief and attempts to negotiate compromises on God's commands, Moses intercedes, and God removes the plagues. Yet each time relief arrives, Pharaoh hardens his heart and refuses to let Israel go. This chapter exposes the spiritual danger of temporary repentance and magnifies the unmatched sovereignty and holiness of the living God.
When God convicts you of sin, do you look merely for relief from consequences, or do you surrender completely to His authority? Share your reflections in the comments below.
