This video shows the entire first section of the Yang Style Long Form Tai Chi Section One as taught by Redding Tai Chi. The form in this video was done much faster than normally practiced.
This form was taught by Zhu Chu Fang (Chu Chu Fang 朱楚方) (1913-1988) in the San Francisco area in the early 1970's. Master Zhu studied with both Chen Wei Ming and Yang Cheng Fu. It is very similar to the form taught by the Yang Family Tai Chi today but the major difference is an emphasis on coordinating the up and down movements (rising and sinking) of the legs and arms. These rising and sinking movement facilitates a natural breathing rhythm that helps improve circulation, create a better sense of well-being, and with practice it develops a deep sense of relaxation.
