Salmon Farming in the Falkland Islands?

Could salmon farming work in one of the most remote and unique places on Earth? The Falkland Islands are defined by wild fisheries, sheep farming, and extraordinary marine ecosystems. But with cold, stable waters and a long history of tightly managed food production, aquaculture is now being explored – cautiously – as part of the islands’ future. In this video, I travel 12,000 km to the Falklands to understand how suitability for salmon farming is about to be assessed here. From environmental impact assessments and site selection to escape risk, economics, and long-term jobs, this isn’t a yes-or-no argument – it’s a look at the process behind responsible decision-making in modern aquaculture. In a place this remote and ecologically unique, asking the question properly matters.
