IRT Subway: R142 (5) train ride from 149th St-GC to Bowling Green via South Ferry Loop.

GC = Grand Concourse (because it couldn't fit in the title). This video was filmed on April 4th, 2026. Welcome back to the channel everyone. Today in this video, we have a full ride onboard an R142 (5) train in car #1170 from 149th Street-Grand Concourse to Bowling Green via Lexington Avenue Express and South Ferry Loop. This video was made in celebration of my channel reaching 500 Subscribers, thank you so much for all the support as always. Anyways, due to track replacement occurring that weekend, there was no (5) train service between 149th Street-Grand Concourse and East 180th Street in both directions. (5) trains were running in 2 sections: 1: Between East 180th Street and Eastchester-Dyre Avenue every 12 minutes (days/evenings). 2: Between Bowling Green and 149th St-Grand Concourse every 20 minutes with trains from Manhattan skipping 138th St-Grand Concourse, passengers who wanted northbound service to/from 138th St-Grand Concourse had to use the (4) train by transferring at 125th Street. Free shuttle buses were running between 149th St-Grand Concourse and East 180th Street providing alternate service to the stations that were closed between the two stops. Note: (2) trains were also not running between 149th St-Grand Concourse and East 180th Street as well. Because of the aforementioned service changes, the (5) train had no access to East 180th Street Yard from the southern section, so the southern half used a few R142s from the (4) line (Jerome Yard). (Note: While there were some R142s on the (2), there were a few R62s loaned on that line for the weekend as the southern half didn't have access to 239th Street Yard) Now I want to mention that this was originally going to be a round trip video but I had somewhere to be so I got off at Bowling Green on the uptown platform, but still went around the South Ferry Loop because it had been a while since I went around the loop although crews don't really want you to stay on the train.
