Making a AAA-style Military FPS with AI (Dev Diary) A dev diary of one ambitious game made with an AI agent in the vbgnt studio: Low Sun, a first-person tactical shooter in a fictional country, built as a vertical slice: one map, one mission, about five minutes of play, pushed as close to a big-studio game as the studio could get. 22 prompts in all. Turn 1 from a design-doc brief in + New game, with Pro (desktop graphics) and Advanced context on; every later turn sent from an AI assistant over MCP; a graybox with real ballistics, the rifle and first-person arms, a golden-hour map built from a concept sheet, five sights, soldiers and enemy AI, a voiced mission, smoke and tracers, menus and a QA pass; every model through Art review before it was made; a real owner playtest: the first-person hands (six attempts, still not signed off), a stutter, a hiss in the compound and canned death animations, each sent back as its own turn, measured before and after on a Mac, and the ragdoll deaths that replaced the old clip; the desktop build rendered with Godot's Movie Maker mode next to the web preview; the studio's Pro marketing kit. Every desktop shot is labelled "Desktop build" and every browser shot "Web preview". All countries, factions, units and weapons in the game are fictional. 0:00 A military FPS, made turn by turn 0:28 A vertical slice 0:40 New game: Pro and Advanced context 1:27 Turns over MCP, renders on this Mac 1:57 Turn 1: graybox and ballistics 2:31 Turn 2: the weapon 3:04 Turn 3: the map 3:34 Turn 4: the arms, six attempts 5:14 Turn 5: five sights 5:44 Turn 6: soldiers and enemy AI 6:22 Turn 7: the mission 6:50 Turn 8: effects and sound 7:20 Turn 9: menus and polish 7:38 The owner's playtest 8:17 Turn 10: the stutter 9:11 The hiss 9:44 Turn 11: ragdoll deaths 10:30 Turn 10b: the desktop hitches 11:02 Web preview vs desktop build 11:28 The marketing kit 11:42 How close to AAA? 12:02 The finished slice Each chapter shows what the studio was asked that turn and what came back. vbgnt is invite-only while we build it.
