A Mind of My Own | Freedom Frequency | Soul-Funk

A Mind of My Own is Track 1 and the opening song from What We Make of It, a 12-song original album by Freedom Frequency. Inspired by the warm, mellow soul-funk of the 1970s, this original song explores what happens when we begin questioning the beliefs, expectations and ideas we've carried with us since childhood. From an early age, we're surrounded by people telling us how the world works, what success should look like and which paths we're expected to follow. Over time, those ideas can become so familiar that we rarely stop to ask whether they're genuinely our own. But there comes a point when we begin looking at life differently. We start asking questions, considering other perspectives and discovering that we're allowed to reach our own conclusions. A Mind of My Own is about that moment of realisation. Not rejecting everything we've been taught, but recognising that we have the freedom to think independently, make our own decisions and choose the beliefs that make sense to us. With rich female soul vocals, warm Fender Rhodes piano, melodic basslines and a relaxed 1970s-inspired groove, A Mind of My Own opens What We Make of It with a message of independence, curiosity and self-discovery. Because having a mind of your own doesn't mean having all the answers. It means being willing to ask the questions. All songs originally written for Freedom Frequency.
