Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov | Full-Cast Audiobook | Why Destroy the Forests?

Ever since the Professor and his wife have come, our daily life seems to have jumped the track. On a cloudy afternoon on the terrace of a country house, the old nurse Marina pours tea for Dr. Astroff, and everything has to wait for the retired Professor, who gets up at twelve while the samovar is kept boiling all the morning. Listen to Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya as a full-cast English audiobook: Vanya, Sonia, Helena, Astroff, Serebrakoff, Marina, Telegin, Mme. Voitskaya and every other speaking part each keep one consistent voice from the first line to the last, and a separate narrator reads the act headings and the stage directions. Astroff asks why anyone should destroy the forests, when the woods of Russia are trembling under the blows of the axe. Vanya says the Professor has been writing on art for twenty-five years without knowing the very first thing about it. A thunderstorm is coming up, and in time the Professor proposes to sell the place. English subtitles appear on screen with the name of each speaker, and English captions (CC) are available too.
