For two and a half years, I had time. A LOT of time. And somehow I still couldn't do the things I wanted to do. I couldn't build habits, paint consistently, draw, or make progress on the projects I cared about. Eventually I realised that maybe the problem wasn't time at all. It was bandwidth.
Our brains have limited processing power. Decisions, uncertainty, unfinished thoughts, chores, work, relationships, money, and even scrolling all take up space. And when something unresolved is constantly running in the background, it can consume the creative bandwidth you would otherwise use to make things.
I've been thinking about this a lot through my own experience with immigration limbo, and I've started noticing something counterintuitive: sometimes you can't solve the thing consuming your bandwidth, but you can compress it. Writing about it, talking about it, giving it a name, and getting it out of my head has helped me stop mentally processing the same problem over and over. The problem isnt solved but my feeling around the problem isnt floating around in me forever, it is now a small unit of information from talking so much about it adn writing so much about it that ive... moved on lol.
Community does something similar. We borrow predictability from other people. We outsource decisions. We let other people carry parts of life with us.
Basically: don't let your brain be your garbage bin. Let YouTube be your garbage bin.
