The Martuljek Waterfalls (Martuljški slapovi) make for one of my favourite hikes near Kranjska Gora. Starting in Gozd Martuljek, the trail leads through a rocky gorge beside the Martuljek stream, with views of Špik and the surrounding Julian Alps along the way. If you’re looking for a waterfall hike in Slovenia with plenty of mountain scenery, this is a beautiful one to explore. 📍 Martuljek Waterfalls • Starting point: Gozd Martuljek, near Kranjska Gora • Parking: 46.484577, 13.842886 (paid parking, EasyPark app) • Starting elevation: approximately 750 m • Upper waterfall viewpoint: approximately 1,150 m • Elevation gain: approximately 400 m • Time: approximately 3 hours return • Trail type: forest paths, wooden bridges, gravel trail and rocky sections • Hut along the way: Brunarica pri Ingotu There are two Martuljek waterfalls. The Lower Martuljek Waterfall is reached through the gorge, while the Upper Martuljek Waterfall lies farther uphill. You can enjoy a shorter walk to the lower waterfall or continue climbing towards the upper one. Hiking to the Martuljek Waterfalls From Gozd Martuljek, near the Triangel Boutique Hotel, follow the path towards the mountains and into the forest. Before long, you’ll enter Martuljek Gorge. This section is fairly short, but the stream, steep rock walls and wooden bridges make it one of the highlights of the hike. Follow the bridges towards the Lower Martuljek Waterfall. You can see it from the wooden bridge, then climb to a second viewpoint for another look. If you want a shorter hike, you can turn back from here. To continue towards the upper waterfall, take the narrow forest trail uphill. This part can be wet and slippery, so wear hiking shoes with good grip. The path eventually joins a wider gravel trail. Follow it through the forest past Brunarica pri Ingotu, where you can stop before the next climb. The trail then continues uphill through the trees and into rockier terrain towards a viewpoint of the Upper Martuljek Waterfall. Getting close to the waterfall involves a steeper section with steel cables. I decided not to climb that final section, but you can still enjoy a view of the waterfall without doing it. What I love about this hike is how much the scenery changes. One moment you’re beside the rushing water in the gorge, and the next you’re looking up at the peaks above Gozd Martuljek. It’s a lovely way to spend a morning hiking near Kranjska Gora. The paths and rocks near the water can be slippery, especially after rain. Check current trail conditions before setting out and decide how far to continue based on the conditions and your comfort with the terrain. Looking for more hikes in Slovenia?
