Welcome to Hikeaholics ❗️Chay, Nutty Nanny and Lee here.
Today, we are off to Hopton-on-Sea to complete a 7.5 Mile circular walk. We take in Hopton, Corton and Lound Lakes, starting at St. Margaret’s Church on Lowestoft Road, Hopton, Norfolk NR31 9ES.
From the church we walk in a South direction towards The White Hart pub. At the pub we turn left down Station Road. We follow this until we come to The Turnstone pub, where the road veers right and is now Coast Road. We follow the road passing the ruins of Old St. Margaret’s Church. We take the third road on the left which is Beach Road. We walk down the road and then cross over to the right to continue down Beach Road. At the top of the slope to the sea and beach we turn right and walk along the clifftop edge. We are now on the Suffolk Coast path and King Charles III trail.
We walk along the clifftop edge within the Potters Resort property. At the end of the property we turn right and then a quick left following the footpath signs. We then turn right with a quick left following the signs to walk along a footpath that takes us back to the clifftop edge. We walk along the clifftop footpath within the boundary of Broadland Sands Holiday Park. After the holiday homes finish we continue along the path until we see 2 Small wind turbines, with a church in the distance. Here, we leave the Suffolk Coast Path. We walk towards and next to the turbines down a footpath. This leads to a concrete track which we turn left onto and towards Church Lane. We turn right onto Church Lane and follow the road passing the Church of St. Bartholomew.
We continue straight onto Stirrups Lane as the road sweeps to the right. We continue down Stirrups Lane until just after we cross the bridge and before the road veers to the right. Here, we turn left and follow the footpath signs into a woodland area. We come out of the woodland and into a field, which we enter but follow the treeline to the left, around the edge of the field (alternative route through the trees on the left). We follow this path until we come to a grass track on our right cutting through the field (this is where alternative route comes out). We follow this track straight to the A47, with the first part between 2 fields and second part through a wooded area alongside a narrow lane.
At the roundabout on the A47, we turn left and then cross both dual carriage ways and onto Gorleston Road. We follow this road for a short while before crossing over and taking the footpath on the right following the footpath sign. This footpath leads out into a field and we follow the hedgerow straight up. When the hedgerow ends it’s a right and then a quick left. We walk through the field towards the hedgerow in front, to the left side of the first large tree. Once at the hedgerow we turn left and walk for 200 yards until we see a gap in the hedge on our right where you can see a fence and gate. We walk through here and out into another field. We walk through the field along the track towards the right hand side of the property. After passing the property we turn right along a track leading us to Market Lane.
We turn right onto Market Lane and walk for 200 yards until we take a left onto a footpath. We continue on, passing some horse paddocks. At the of the paddocks we turn right and then a quick left towards some isolated trees. We walk down the right side of these trees and when they end, we turn left on a path through the hedge and straight across the field in front, towards some more trees. We take the footpath to the right after these trees and follow the footpath through the fields to Jay Lane. We turn left onto Jay Lane and follow it until we turn right onto Dorking Road. At the bend in the road we turn left onto Back Lane.
After a short while we turn right off the road following the footpath signs into a field towards a pylon. At the end of the field we go through the gate into Homeclose Shrubbery and take a left turn through the first wooden gate we come to. We follow the track and come out into a meadow, where we keep to the right and go through the next gate we see on our right hand side. This leads to a wooden boardwalk between the lakes. We continue through the next gate towards the car park. We then turn right, up and over the grassy incline (great view at the top) and through the gate at the bottom. We turn left and follow the footpath to its end to come out onto Hall Road. We turn right here and follow the road (be careful on the blind bend) back to the A47. We cross over the A47 to the left and come back onto Hall Road. We follow this road back up to Lowestoft Road and back to where we started.
