What happens on a Sunday morning in Tokyo when the streets are filled with classic Porsches, Ferraris, Jaguars, Lotuses, Alfa Romeos, Lancias, Japanese legends and some seriously exotic machinery? I headed down to Gaien Dori in Aoyama on a quiet Sunday morning and discovered one of Tokyo's most fascinating little automotive scenes. I'm not really a car expert — so this isn't a technical car review or a deep dive into specifications. Instead, this is a walk through the scene as I experienced it: beautiful cars arriving, owners taking their cars out for a Sunday drive, people gathering around the classics, and an incredible variety of machinery appearing one after another. There were so many highlights that I lost track: Lotus Elises, Porsche 356s and 911s, a Ferrari 308, Jaguar E-Types, Alfa Romeos, Lancias, an Alfa Romeo Spider, an Aston Martin, a Lamborghini Countach, a Bugatti, a beautiful Fairlady Z, a Toyota Celica convertible, a Suzuki Jeep, a Morgan, a Triumph, a Mercedes, BMWs and plenty more. And then there were the unexpected things you sometimes encounter on a Tokyo morning — including a woman walking down the street with two owls! One of my favorite parts of the morning was seeing so many of these cars simply driving away together, heading out for the day. There's something particularly Japanese about the way this scene feels: understated, organized, passionate, and completely integrated into the city. I also talk about some of my own history with cars and motorcycles, including my old 1989 Honda Transalp, which I had for about 20 years before finally letting it go. This is a little different from my usual Tokyo Record Style videos, but that's part of what I love about living in Tokyo. Records, photography, music, design, motorcycles, cars, architecture, street culture — there are always fascinating subcultures hiding in plain sight. So come along for a Sunday morning on Gaien Dori and let's see what turns up. Which car would you take home? Let me know in the comments. And if you're visiting Tokyo and you're interested in cars, motorcycles, records, photography and the stranger corners of the city, subscribe to Tokyo Record Style. There's always something happening out here. Until next time, I'll see you out there. 🚗 🏍️ 🇯🇵 0:00 Unexpected Sunday Morning Discoveries 0:33 Owls and Rare BMWs 2:27 The Timeless Appeal of the Fairlady Z 6:46 Porsche 356 and Other German Legends 10:30 The Iconic Wedge Design Legend ============== Thank you for watching! 👍 Please like! 🔔 Subscribe! 🛎️ Stay updated!
