Northern Voices: Raymond & Janet - Working Together

For our next Northern Voices story, we meet Janet, a care partner who shares what it has meant to navigate dementia alongside Raymond, her husband, best friend, and partner of 40 years. Her story speaks to the fear and uncertainty that can come when someone you love begins to change, but also to the difference that education, respite, meaningful programs, and strong social connections can make. For Raymond, participating in a day program means having a place where he feels safe, included, and free to be himself. For his care partner, it means having time to recharge while knowing that he is engaged and happy. Their story also highlights the importance of culturally meaningful, accessible dementia supports for First Nations communities and the need to work together to ensure people can receive the care they deserve, close to home.
