Waiyaki Way Is Changing! Major Drainage Works Underway Near Westlands | Nairobi Transformation

Waiyaki Way is gradually taking shape, and in this video I take a walk from around Consolata School towards the Westlands Roundabout near One Africa Place to see what is happening on the ground. One of the major things I noticed along this stretch is the ongoing drainage work connecting into Waiyaki Way. The aim of these drainage structures is to help move stormwater away from the highway and channel it towards larger drainage infrastructure along the edges of the road. As I walk along the route, I come across sections that have already been worked on, while other areas have been marked out for additional drainage works that are yet to begin. I then cross over towards the area near the Radisson Hotel, where a barricade initially restricts access. After walking around the construction area, I get a much better view of what is happening behind the barricades. From this position, you can begin to see how the different drainage sections are being connected and how the works tie back into the stretch I had just walked through. There is also some adjustment work taking place along Waiyaki Way. What makes this interesting is that when you look at the individual sections, the work can seem disconnected. But after walking the entire stretch and getting a wider view, you start to understand the bigger picture of what the roadworks and drainage improvements are intended to achieve. KeNHA identifies Waiyaki Way as part of the A8 national trunk-road corridor and its mandate includes the rehabilitation and maintenance of national trunk roads. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the changes already taking place give an indication of how different this part of Nairobi could look once the various works are completed. And honestly, my biggest takeaway from this walk is simple: there is still a lot more to come.
