I took a walk around Nairobi’s Green Park Pedestrian Underpass along Haile Selassie Avenue and Uhuru Highway to see how far construction has progressed — and the project is now looking very close to completion. The KSh 2 billion Green Park Underpass is designed to provide pedestrians with a safer way to cross this extremely busy part of Nairobi without having to navigate traffic at the Haile Selassie Avenue–Uhuru Highway intersection. Recent government reporting put the project at about 99% complete, with final works including finishes, utility connections, electrical and mechanical installations, testing and commissioning. During this visit, I checked out several parts of the facility, including the entrances and exits where water and fire hydrant points can be seen, the lift doors, newly completed terrazzo sections and some of the stairway entrances. Some areas are still closed off, and the underpass has not yet been opened for public use. I also recorded the roundabout at Haile Selassie Avenue, where the work appears to be complete. The stormwater drainage system has been covered, and the surrounding works have been finished, giving the area a more complete and organised appearance. The facility is expected to include seven lifts for accessibility, 39 retail shops and stalls, CCTV surveillance, lighting, firefighting equipment, standby generators, two ablution blocks and 24-hour security. Plans also include a police post inside the facility. The underpass forms part of a wider effort to improve pedestrian movement around Green Park, Haile Selassie Avenue, Uhuru Highway and the railway precinct, with the facility providing connections toward the Nairobi Railway Station area and the CBD. I also spotted huge piles of murram near the exit towards Haile Selassie Expressway, just off Green Park Bus Station — another sign that some external works and final site preparations are still ongoing. In this video, come along as I take a closer look at the current state of the Green Park Underpass, visit the completed Haile Selassie roundabout and see what has changed since my previous visit. 📍 Location: Green Park / Haile Selassie Avenue, Nairobi, Kenya #GreenParkUnderpass #HaileSelassie #Nairobi #NairobiProjects #NairobiDevelopment #KenyaInfrastructure #PedestrianUnderpass #GreenParkTerminus #NairobiCBD #NairobiWalk
