Acts 8:26-31 Hey everyone! In this video we are looking at a passage where God directs Philip to a divine appointment on a desert road and uses him to explain the Scriptures to a seeking heart. "Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, 'Go south to the road--the desert road--that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.' So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means 'queen of the Ethiopians'). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, 'Go to that chariot and stay near it.' Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. 'Do you understand what you are reading?' Philip asked. 'How can I,' he said, 'unless someone explains it to me?' So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him." - Acts 8:26-31 This passage is full of powerful lessons. First, we see Philip's radical obedience. He was in the middle of a thriving ministry in Samaria, and God told him to go to a desert road. It didn't make sense. But Philip went anyway. He didn't argue. He didn't delay. He obeyed immediately. Second, we see God's perfect timing. The Ethiopian eunuch was a high-ranking official who had traveled to Jerusalem to worship. He was spiritually hungry. He was reading the Scriptures. But he didn't understand them. And God had already arranged for Philip to be there at exactly the right moment. Third, we see the importance of humility. When Philip asked if he understood what he was reading, the eunuch didn't pretend. He admitted he needed help. He said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me?" He was humble enough to ask for guidance. And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. This passage reminds us that God is always at work, arranging divine appointments. He places people in our path who are seeking, who are hungry, who need someone to explain the Scriptures to them. Our job is to be obedient like Philip -- to go where He leads, to engage with those He places in our path, and to point them to Jesus.
