Peterborough Station
Part 1 of 4
10th September 2026
After a long day at Leicester, I travelled to the East Coast Mainline and to the very busy station of Peterborough. First getting permission from the kind staff at the entrance to go onto the platforms and photograph/video, I was pleased to see how clean and spacious the station was, with plenty of facilities in the way of refreshments and toilets. The station has changed much since my Deltic and 1st generation DMU days back in the 1970's, what with all the different operating companies and types of modern traction, I was soon to amass on the day nearly 3 hours of video footage, so have edited the entire feature into 4 parts. On this day I witnessed Locomotive classes 47, 66, 69 and 91 plus their Class 82 DVT. The breakdown of Electric and BiMode multiple units seen were including Diesel Multiple Units, The Azuma operated by LNER Class 800/801 series serving London King's Cross to Hull, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Leeds. Hull Trains employing the Paragon Class 802 units also serving King's Cross and Hull and Beverley in Yorkshire. The Grand Central Trains were operated with the 180 Class and also Class 221's 'Voyagers' serving King's Cross, Bradford Interchange and Sunderland. A favourite of mine purely because of their stunning all over Blue livery are the Class 803's, operated by LUMO (East Coast) from London King's Cross to Glasgow Queen Street. Other multiple Units seen here are the Thameslink EMU Class 700's on Horsham, Gatwick Airport, London Bridge, London St Pancras International and the ECML to Peterborough. Class 158's were seen on East Midlands services to and from Peterborough to Lincoln and Class 170 DMU's were also seen on Cross Country trains and East Midland Services. Plenty of variety and liveries and the amount of freight albeit mostly Container Traffic, but the occasional alternative service. Phew! this really was a grand day with so much constant activity, far more than it used to be back in the 1980's and 1990's for definate.

A big thank you to the station staff at Peterborough for allowing me access to the platforms for the purpose of making this video.
